HÄMMERLE reveals new auction platform

Industrial auctions are one of the main business areas of HÄMMERLE, the recovery specialist with over 25 years of know-how and expertise. The company, based in Eching in the district of Landshut, is one of the leading recovery companies in Germany and focuses on valuations as well as industrial and insolvency auctions. HÄMMERLE is actively accompanying changes in the segment of industrial auctions – its relaunch under the code name “Hammer”, released on 4th July, 2018 is an expression of these modern service offerings.

HÄMMERLE invests massively in the next generation auction platform

HÄMMERLE decided to relaunch its own auction platform to meet the constantly growing demands of the parties involved. Its release on 4th July, 2018 will also reveal the company’s own rebranding efforts, symbolising the start of a new era. With over 240 man-days of development, with “Hammer” HÄMMERLE is shifting focus again onto its international, user-friendly and intuitive auction platform.

As a partner for the technical implementation, HÄMMERLE relied once again on the experience of AuctioNovo GmbH from Dresden, which was involved in the last relaunch four years ago. The team was completed by gravik.de, a dynamic web design agency based in Munich that has already worked for customers such as Sony or Pro 7. In this innovative constellation, HÄMMERLE has succeeded in concentrating on and bundling the experience it has gained in the four years since the last relaunch in a coordinated manner.

“Our objective was to create an equal ratio of information content for our different user groups, to separate these areas clearly from each other, and to enhance them with corresponding functions. Potential clients might like to gain information about HÄMMERLE and its services, whereas bidders searching for machines or plants want to access the respective industrial auction and its corresponding information quickly so they can place bids,“  says Klaus Stass, Head of Marketing and Online Auctions at HÄMMERLE

The new HÄMMERLE auction platform is centered around a high degree of information

The overall approach of the project managers at HÄMMERLE aims specifically at content-rich information for each industrial auction. In this way, interested parties receive a series of additional, specific information about the auction and they also see an overview of similar items that are presented on the respective auction page. Each visitor is therefore able to decide whether and how the search for a specific object is intensified and specified – always with the option of including the additional information that is important for decision-making in a compact and uniform fashion.

User-friendliness is an essential element of the new design

The new design concept from HÄMMERLE and gravik.de provides various split screens that make navigating considerably easier and more intuitive. Such a UX design is modern and also aligned with user requirements. The relaunch thus sets itself apart through high levels of functionality and an individual design.

“During the design phase and the web design for HÄMMERLE, it was especially important to implement a user-orientated UX design systematically based on concrete specifications. Equally, we knew that this wouldn’t be an easy task given the complex technical interplay involved.

Visitors are guided through different “split screens” that are generously conceived and designed. This allows for rapid navigation and a positive customer experience. Catalogues and auction details were designed carefully yet in a modern way and are based on the simplest user guidance possible. The form follows the function.

Ultimately, together we have succeeded in conceiving a design in which many of the essential features of an online auction house were included, whilst at the same time making a modern and user-orientated design apparent. Instead of being mainstream, the new auction platform stands out with its innovative ideas and individual design,”  says Thomas Vitzthum, Director of gravik.de

Always keep track: the HÄMMERLE auction calendar and the new dashboard

To make the user experience a positive one, compact presentations containing all important information are essential. In the course of the HÄMMERLE relaunch, this will be supported by a new auction calendar in the future. This provides interested parties with a quick overview of all ongoing HÄMMERLE auctions.

In addition and with immediate effect, registered users can call up and use various convenient features directly by using the new dashboard . This contains successful acceptances of bids as well as the observed items – you can even change settings there. It will also be possible to access invoices directly over time.

“High standards were set for the development team, not just to redesign individual pages, but to keep an eye on the technical aspect overall. This was a complex undertaking since it involved various presentation states depending on the auction status, as well as various access channels (smartphone, tablet, desktop PC), which required a responsive presentation.“  says Bernd Kelchner, Head of Technical Development and Director of AuctioNovo GmbH

Trust in the transparency of the new HÄMMERLE auction platform

Functions and presentations were revised, tested and reprogrammed to offer the required degree of security, transparency and user friendliness to the various visitor groups to the new HÄMMERLE website. The relaunch is accompanied by a move to a new server; one of the most modern high-performance computing centres in Germany ensures that the stability and availability of the system remain guaranteed even in times of high access rates. Modern SSL encryption by means of an extended SSL certificate safeguards the exchange of data over the HÄMMERLE auction platform.

For Klaus Stass, Head of Marketing and Online Auctions, emphasis was placed on an holistic approach from the perspective of each individual user group:

“Hämmerle has always stood for transparent industrial auctions and a modern website. Various cooperation projects and marketing activities meant that visitors always ended up at different sub-sites of our auction platform. We attached great importance to providing our visitors with all of the information they required – right away and in a clear format – relating to auctions, dates and pricing. For even more transparency, our bidders can now see their counter bidders for the first time in our bidding history.”

Powerful systems working in the background – HÄMMERLE optimises processes and process flows

Online auctions are not only held, they also have to be prepared for and followed up. Complex software in the background is already required at the start of the valuation. Calculating values, monitoring the bidder pool, auction and item administration, document preparation and the implementation of corresponding automation rules are only a few areas that such software has to cover to ensure the efficiency of the internal steps that employees have to take.

The software that was designed for this purpose controls all of the necessary processes in the backend that users intuitively use and apply in the frontend. Users don’t even see most of these processes which are integrative in nature – nonetheless, they are relevant for such systems to ensure that the auction process runs smoothly. Together with AuctioNovo, HÄMMERLE has made a considerable contribution towards progressive digitalisation.

Bernd Kelchner, Director of AuctioNovo GmbH:

“Even if the scale of this project was unprecedented right from the start, together with HÄMMERLE we have devised, questioned, tested and integrated additional ideas for new features over the course of the project.

At any point in the development we had to find a balance between further developing the auction software programmed by AuctioNovo, which is also used for fine art auction houses including Dannenberg and Lempertz, and implementing the extremely specific requirements profile of HÄMMERLE. This was especially the case with the creation of expert opinions and the areas of valuation, web design and database optimisation.”

Years of experience combined with ideas and a planning strategy that has an understanding of a modern auction platform are essential elements for turning industrial auctions by HÄMMERLE into an experience by modern standards. With its relaunch, HÄMMERLE is already working on implementing additional ideas and functionalities that will continue to simplify and design the operation based on the respective situation.

HÄMMERLE: We offer the digital action platform and assessments of the future!

“Reliable assessments, optimal marketing solutions and a user-friendly auction platform constitute the foundations of our daily work. Once again we are investing in the technical product development of our auction platform so we can meet the requirements of our customers and clients to the fullest possible extent.

Our intention is to present a new generation of digital industrial auctions. We are already working on the realization of many additional functions that will be implemented shortly to increase the user experience of our new HÄMMERLE auction platform!”

Peter Hämmerle, Director of Hämmerle GmbH & Co. KG
